Coming Appearances
Fractured Fable: Pippi Van Wrinkles
April 19, 2010
As part of a large Fractured Fable anthology for kids (ages 4-8), my ol' pal and Trollords editor Len Strazewski and I teamed up again for another comics story, having been invited to contribute by Jim Valentino of Image/Silverline Books. We're pleased to be in the company of comics bigshots like Jeff Smith, Doug TenNapel and Larry Marder, among others, as well as a host of very talented newcomers.

For our part, we flipped Washington Irving's Rip Van Winkle on its head to create Pippi Van Wrinkles, a fun little romp about the dangers of selfishness and excess. A primer to the hardcover book will feature five stories, available as Image Comics part in Free Comic Book Day. The anthology book will be available in comics shops and at the San Diego comic con in July, in bookstores at large by October, 2010.
Night of the Bedbugs Childrens Book
March 16, 2010

My childrens book, Night of the Bedbugs (Image/Silverline Books) has been available in comics shops and on amazon since late December, 2009, and is now in bookstores. In this colorful hardcover book, a little girl discovers the bedbugs her mother warned her about really do bite! But her bedtime fears are calmed when a friendly bedbugs and his pals join her for a pajama party and sing her to sleep with a soft lullaby.

Scholastic/Amercian Census Bureau Program
October 27, 2009

When the Census Bureau wanted to use comics for the American 2010 census to reach as many people as possible, Donna Montalbano and the fine folks at Scholastic called us again. This time, to create a series of spot and character illustrations, and some sequential scenarios to communicate direction to all and make sure everyone is counted.
Microsoft GSX Superhero Video
July 5, 2009

Microsoft wanted to add some pizzazz to their new internal sales tool, so they tapped us at Blue Moon Studios to create some heroes and help dramatize the situation. Originally considered as a comic book project, it was reconceptualized as something of an animated video.

SAMHSA/Scholastic Reach Out Now Program for Tweens
April 13, 2009

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) teamed with Scholastic and chose us to do the various cartoon illustrations and comic strips to help teach tweens and teens about the dangers of alcohol and the power they have to make wise choices. From a certain perspective, it can seem almost too early to talk with kids about this topic, but I've learned it can be a real problem for kids in middle school. And some alcoholics recall having their first taste even earlier, at age seven or eight.
So, we're pleased and proud to have been part of the project, and that the program was designed in part to use the powerful communication tool of comics to help get the message across.
Proof Comic Book Short Story
January 26, 2009

This short story back-up feature for the Image comic book, Proof marks my return to the traditional comic book market. Lodged is written by Alex Grecian, and it was a blast to work my old pal, even if I didn't get draw Proof (Bigfoot) himself, co-created by Riley Rossmo. Alex tailored the story for me, so I had plenty fo fun drawing all types of creatures, including a big orange-red brontosaurus. You can find the story in Proof #16, and read more about the creative process at our blog.
National Kidney Foundation Comics Poster Series
November 7, 2008

The National Kidney Foundation in association with the Bryant/Brown agency selected us about two years back to do a number of things for them to help them spread the word about the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease.
We began the project by creating illustrations for simple animation that was used for a trade show display, along with other materials. Around the same time, I worked with them to create a dozen or so characters that would appear in a running comic strip poster series. These posters are about 2' x 3', and are displayed in a variety of areas like doctor's offices, hospitals, bus terminals, etc. The comics medium was chosen to attract attention and deliver the message to as many people as possible who might not otherwise be aware of their condition or what to do about it. Tens of thousands of posters were distributed, many translated and presented in Spanish.

December 14, 2007
Though Blue Moon Studios has maintained an internet presence since 1999, we present here a new and improved site; closer in conception, content, design, structure and execution to what has always been in the Blue Moon Mind's Eye.
We've relaunched with nearly 200 pages of content, just to start. Click around, and you'll notice updated art, features and product, as well as an integrated daily blog, which may give reason to visit more often. So, please do!
