I’ve see a lot of cover illustrations, is this a duck & cover illustration?

Yeah, I think I had a carte blanche on the concept, but then it was rejected as inappropriate for the cover. It ended up being used inside the publication supporting an article on the dangers of kids using fireworks.
We shot off some simple fireworks in front of the house on the 4th. The kids had a blast lighting all of them themselves.
